Sloane Stephens and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova at the final in Washington

Sloane Stephens and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova qualified for the final by football tips of the tournament in Washington.

The young American will play for the first time for the title in a race of WTA, after overcoming the experienced Australian Samantha Stosur with 7:6 (4), 6:0.

Stosur broke for 3:1 games, but Stephens returned back the break. In the ensuing tiebreak Sam led with 4:2 points, but her opponent concentrated and won the next five rallies, and with this the set. In the second the tennis player from Florida was imperative and won to zero for 25 minutes.

"I was too long waiting for this final. To get to it exactly in Washington is something special for me," said the 35th in the world Sloane, who was only one of the Top 40, which has never reached a fight for a trophy.

In the other semifinal, which was between Russians, Anastasia Pavlyuchmenkova beat Ekaterina Makarova after 4:6, 6:3 and quit because of injury in the leg of the left-handed from Moscow.

Pavlyuchenkova will fight for an eighth title and a first for this season. At the moment Anastasia is No40 in the world rankings.
