The captain of Barcelona Andres Iniesta and his teammates Gerard Pique and Ivan Rakitic support Juan Carlos Unzue to become the head coach of the Catalans in the summer of 2017.
Currently, Unzue is the assistant to the senior coach Luis Enrique, who will leave the Camp Nou after the end of the current season.
Ernesto Valverde, who is in charge of Athletic (Bilbao), is the other candidate for the position in the Spanish champion.
Unzue is a former goalkeeper of the `blue-red`. He worked as a goalkeepers` coach at Barcelona during the period 2003-2010. After that, he joined the team of Numancia but the period in that club from football picks was unsuccessful. During the 2011-2012 season, he got back to Barca. The specialist worked with Luis Enrique in Celta (Vigo) in 2013, a year later, Enrique and Unzue returned to Catalonia.
`Unsue knows everything about the Club, and for his work. He is a qualified and experienced trainer. He wants to help us to achieve our objectives.`, said Iniesta.
He appreciated the qualities of Ernesto Valverde.
`At the moment these are just hypothetical conversations, but he (Valverde) is doing well, wherever he goes. His style is always recognizable.`, said Iniesta.
The experienced defender Gerard Pique also supported Juan Carlos Unsue.
`He has had many years at the club, not only with Luis Enrique but also with Pep Guardiola. I am sure he is a good candidate.`, said Pique.
Ivan Rakitic is sure that Unzue will get along with the players of Barca.
`I have a very good relationship with him. He knows us and we trust him.`, said the Croatian national.
